Bucket List - My First Published Article

The year 2008 was a life-changing year for me.

I have always loved the arts of any form. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with the skills in all its forms. While my sisters can belt out songs with the creme of the crop, I am only a fairly decent singer. My brothers are good with drawing and sketching but my skills lie in digital art creation. I do excel however in one art form over them, that is the art of written and spoken words.

Even at a very young age, I have always been fascinated with creating sounds and images through stories and poems. Honestly, I don't know why I took up Accountancy.

I went on a hiatus from writing because I wanted people to take me seriously. I didn't want people accusing me of being a dreamer (and I didn't know Mascom pays so much). I didn't go back to writing until around 2006. It was mostly "off the cuff" poetry, until 2008.

2008 was the year I was invited to be part of a project called The Diary of An Angel. It was a dream conceived by a good friend and he wanted to include new artists in his roster. But that is another story to tell.

What changed everything for me is getting my first print in a magazine. Not just an ordinary magazine but a US-based magazine - 13 Minutes Magazine. 13 Minutes is a bi-cultural magazine targetting Asians living in the US.

Okay so I didn't get paid for the article but heck, the bragging rights were more than enough. How many amateur writer do you know can brag about having their first published article in a US magazine?

It will be 12 years this August since it was first published (best birthday gift ever) so I guess it is okay to show this to everyone. I have long since lost the original magazine (someone stole it when we moved to another house). The copyright still remains with 13 Minutes though.
